Hot Air Balloon Flights Over - Milton Keynes - (Willen Lake) |
|
| |
Lying almost due north from Aylesbury is the second of our Buckinghamshire Virgin Balloon Flight launch sites, situated at the south end of the spectacular Willen Lake, created in 1973. This end of the lake is home to the Willen Lakeside Park. Here you can enjoy water sports, both indoor and outdoor exercise and fitness, or just take a break and relax. Many spectacular events take place here every year and the lake itself provides the perfect backdrop for watching our vast red balloons take off! The North end of the Lake is home to many species of birds. The island in the middle of the North Lake makes an ideal nesting area. There is also a Buddhist Temple and the Peace Pagoda, which was the first to be built in Europe. Inside there are sacred relics of the Lord Buddha and outside there are magnificent carvings. The Willen Lake launch site provides a spectacular variety of routes in all directions and opportunities to view such landmarks as the historical Woburn Abbey and the famous Woburn Safari Park. Alternatively you might catch a mid-air glimpse of some the Milton Keynes most famous inhabitants, the much-maligned concrete cows that can be seen grazing in the field beside the H3 Monks Way! You will no doubt pass over the odd coaching town or two such as Stony Stratford or Newport Pagnell. Perhaps your pilot will let you into his secret and reveal the exact location of the wartime intelligence center at Bletchley.
