Hot Air Balloon Over - Ashburton |
|
| |
Devon is, of course, the land of cream-teas and dare we say, the widest choice of Virgin Hot Air Balloon launch sites in any county, blessed with no less than eight carefully selected locations from which to explore the beauty of this glorious part of the country. Ashburton, bordering the Dartmoor National Park lies slightly northeast of Buckfastleigh and is home to another of our Devon launch sites. An ancient stannary and medieval wool town, Ashburton once saw 40% of Europe's tin pass through its streets en-route from Dartmoor. As a medieval wool town it soon became famous for producing the red serge that was used in the making of the uniforms, once worn by the British Army. Today however the town is a central base from which to explore the national park and the rugged unspoilt terrain that makes up Dartmoor. The town of Bovey Tracey, home to the world's most collectable teapots and where one can make one's own or watch the experts at work lies to the North East and may well fall beneath your flight path. If gorges and waterfalls inspire you then it might be that you chance to look down upon the nearby cascading waters at Becky Falls or the highest waterfall in England, Canonteign Falls. A southerly flight from our Virgin Hot Air Balloon launch site may well lead you to exchange a friendly wave from the basket with the welcoming monks of the magnificent Buckfast Abbey, a living Benedictine Monastery set in the beautiful Dart valley. Nowhere are you likely to encounter such diversity and beauty as in this quiet corner of Devon and nowhere will you find a warmer welcome.
