Balloons Over Crowborough
Did you ever want to step into the wonderful world of Winnie the Pooh when you were younger? Well, wind-willing, a balloon flight from Crowborough in East Sussex could see you floating over it.
We can’t transport you into a magical cartoon land, but you could drift above Ashdown Forest, home to 100 Acre Wood, the fictional name for where Christopher Robin, Pooh bear, Piglet and friends live. Within the forest lie many real places which inspired author A. A. Milne’s stories making this a real favourite for younger flyers, as long as they’re over seven years old.
If the breeze takes you in another direction you won’t be disappointed as the surrounding countryside – once described as ‘Scotland in Sussex’ because of its beauty – unfolds before you. If you drift north then Kent beckons and perhaps Royal Tunbridge Wells, with its Georgian elegance, will come into view.
The rural market town of Crowborough itself lies on top of High Weald at over 800 ft above sea level and spreads out from an ancient beacon site. The far reaching views, which you’ll enjoy, made the town an excellent vantage point for smugglers in hiding, whilst the area’s pure, clean environment meant it became a fresh air resort for those looking to escape the city smog in the Edwardian era.
So, come and join us, open your eyes, take a deep breath and enjoy your flight-of-a-lifetime!
