York Hot Air Balloon Ride

Fun & Interesting Facts

York is widely believed to be the most haunted city in all of Europe, with about 500 ghosts in the city centre alone.

About

Appreciate the true beauty of a magnificent city when you take to the skies on a York hot air balloon ride.

Enjoy the flying experience of a lifetime in our iconic big red balloon as you go up, up and away from the city’s racecourse.

When it comes to amazing views, balloon rides from York offer the best of both worlds – the historic walled city laid out below as you launch, before the wind gently takes you out over the glorious surrounding countryside.

Keep an eye out for many well-known landmarks, including the Gothic-style York Minster, the world famous National Railway Museum and Clifford’s Tower.

The right wind might even bring the historic Shambles into view – a beautiful old street lined with overhanging timber-framed buildings, some dating back to the 14th century. It’s widely accepted the Shambles was the likely inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter book series.

A fabulous and unique adventure, nothing else compares to the amazing experience of a York hot air balloon flight.

Directions

If you are using a sat nav to get here, please use postcode YO23 1ET and please do not head to the grandstands.

Exit the A64 onto the A1036 and follow York centre signs for about 1.5 miles until you see the racecourse on your right. Please do not follow the brown signs for the racecourse, as these will take you a mile out of your way to the wrong side of the grounds.

Turn right at the junction and drive down the tree lined avenue for about 500 yards. Park up near the three double gates on the right hand side of the road and walk over on the racecourse side of the park to meet your crew.

A reminder again – please do not go to the grandstands themselves.
