Soaring into the sky you’ll see pretty villages shaped by the Industrial Revolution and the Age of the Railway. In fact, it got the name from the Amber Gate toll built on the turnpike road between Cromford and Belper in 1820. Two gateposts can still be seen, now found on the A6 by the White House Inn.
If you’re lucky, the wind will guide you north past Matlock Bath, a popular tourist spot known for its warm springs and beautiful Switzerland-style scenery. There you may sail over the High Tor cliff face or the tree topped Heights of Abraham – why not wave to the people travelling to the summit in a cable car.
Maybe you’ll spot the rugged landscapes of the Derbyshire Dales; Lathkill and Dovedale. Look out for Chatsworth estate, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall.
