As the setting of Sherlock Holmes chiller The Hound of the Baskervilles, Dartmoor is known for its barren, desolate and mysterious landscape.
Well, barren it may be, but awe-inspiring it certainly is when seen sweeping away below your Virgin balloon. And a flight from our Cornwood launch site, a stone’s throw north of Ivybridge, will likely take you right across the southern tip of this dramatic moor land.
You’ll depart from part of the private Delamore estate and it is certain that the grand house - with its Dartmoor granite walls and high gabled roof - will look even more impressive from the sky.
Scan the gardens for Millennium Avenue, a feature of 52 lime trees, and the curious looking cromlech, a modern day replica of a Bronze Aged burial chamber, made of a huge piece of granite balanced on three standing stones.
As well as the vast moor with its distinctive tors – large hills topped with rocks - you may well see both the Rivers Yealm and Erme as you drift along. Towns including South Brent could catch your eye thousands of feet below and the beautiful sixty mile South Hams coast will be visible in the distance.
So come and fly with us. We can’t promise you’ll see a blood thirsty beast roaming the moor or that there will be a juicy murder mystery to solve, but you’ll definitely have an adventure to remember.directionsCornwood Launch site:- Eastbound on the A38 Take the South Brent/ Avonwick turning off the A38.
