The historic town of Honiton is set in the heart of the beautiful east Devon countryside, on the main road and rail routes from London to Exeter. This pretty market town is a traditional gateway into county Devonshire and a perfect launch site for your Virgin hot air balloon ride.
Historically famous for its lace making industry, Honiton is home to Allhallow’s Museum of Lace and Antiques which boasts an eclectic collection of the intricate craftwork. Since the lace industry’s decline in the early 19th Century, Honiton has re-invented itself with antique collections and has become a magnet for bargain hunters from around the world. As a result of both of these traditions Honiton hosts numerous specialist shops devoted to lace, pottery and antiques, see if you can spot them from the sky!
From the basket of your balloon, the wind may direct you over the Iron Age hill fort of nearby Hembury Castle at some 137 meters above sea level or may allow you to float above the Parish Church of Honiton, St Michael’s, which sits on a small hill overlooking the town.
If the wind takes you south the coastline may come into view or floating east may take you above the market town of Axminster which lies on the River Axe. Whichever direction your fly, the beautiful town of Honiton, picturesquely situated on rising ground south-east of the river Otter, will offer you spectacular sky high views and memories you will cherish forever.directionsHoniton launch site:- Wessington Farm Awliscombe Honiton Devon EX14 3NU From M5 junction 28 Take A373 to Honiton.
