A hot air balloon ride from Newbury in Berkshire begins from Victoria Park in the centre of town. Newbury itself, situated on the River Kennet, is currently undergoing extensive renovation to transform it into a cutting-edge shopping centre and contemporary living space and is also home to many 17th century buildings.
Once airborne, you can expect to see famous Newbury Racecourse visible to the south and the huge former USAF airbase, Greenham Common to the east which closed in 1993 after the cessation of the Cold War and had the longest military runway in the United Kingdom. Unfettered by airspace restrictions a balloon flight from Newbury might take you in any direction and once ascending to altitude you are able to see the whole of the M4 corridor.
Often flying as far as Swindon or Reading, Newbury is surrounded predominantly by farmland but you will also fly high over stud farms to the south around Kingsclere; perhaps more famous for its proximity to Watership Down, the setting for Richard Adams’ famous 1972 heroic fantasy about a small group of rabbits.
Prepare for a journey of unforgettable ballooning memories as you drift serenely over this beautiful area.directionsNewbury launch site:- The post code for the meeting place for this launch site is RG14 1DN.
