Found on the fringe of the awe-inspiring Brecon Beacons National Park, Pandy in Monmouthshire is an ideal launch pad into the serene and beautiful world of ballooning.
The famous protected landscape unfolds for 519 square miles to the west divided by a quartet of upland ranges, the closest of which is the Black Mountains between Abergavenny and Crickhowell.
This undulating panorama, paired with the glistening Severn Estuary which emerges beyond Newport and Cardiff to the south, is something wonderful to behold from the basket of a Virgin balloon.
The rolling patchwork countryside is dotted with farms, villages, towns and other interesting sights to catch your eye. The ancient town of Abergavenny, nestling in the Usk Valley, can be traced back to the Roman fort of Gobannium established in 57 or 58 AD. Today it is a welcoming tourist destination and well worth admiring from the sky.
Other landmarks around the launch site reveal telltale signs of the land’s rich and turbulent history. If the breeze is kind, one you may see is Abergavenny Castle, which dates from around 1087. The picturesque ruin was the seat of the medieval lords of Abergavenny and at the heart of three centuries of border warfare. Look out too for the mountains Skirrid, Blorenge and Hay Bluff.
Grosmont Castle and the White Castle are two other fascinating remnants of the past you could drift over during your unforgettable Virgin Balloon Flight from Pandy.

The launch site is a field to the west of the village of Pandy which is on the A465 Hereford road just north of Abergavenny.
If you are heading north out of Abergavenny on the A465 towards Hereford you will reach the village of Pandy after about 6 miles.
In Pandy please take the first turning left just after the Camping & Caravan site and park in the road alongside 'The Lancaster Arms' pub. DO NOT park in the car park for the Lancaster Arms itself as this is Private. Please respect local residents by waiting quietly with your vehicles, especially on early morning flights.
