Just 4 miles west of the cathedral city of Salisbury in Wiltshire lies Salisbury Racecourse. There has been racing at this course since the mid-16th century where many equine legends have seen success. It was at Salisbury Racecourse in 1948 where the public first saw Lester Piggott ride, now considered to be the best of his generation and greatest English flat jockey with 4,493 wins during his career.
A hot air balloon ride over Salisbury Racecourse promises a much more serene kind of ride than a thunderous gallop around a racecourse however. Instead you can expect to catch a glimpse of the tallest church spire in Britain belonging to Salisbury Cathedral, one of the finest medieval churches in Britain.
Salisbury is situated in rural England’s heartland on the Dorset and Wiltshire border. A hot air balloon ride south eastwards will carry you over the New Forest National Park. If you fly in spring look out for the wash of bluebells covering the woodland floors and the New Forest cattle and ponies grazing throughout the Forest in their various haunts.
If the wind carries you westwards you might find yourself drifting serenely over Shaftesbury or Sherborne; one of the most beautiful towns in England with picturesque almshouses, a superb abbey and an abundance of medieval buildings.
With the World Heritage site of Stonehenge, Salisbury Cathedral and Longleat, along with 13th century buildings, quaint tea rooms, a host of art and culture venues and 8,200 paths and trails to walk or cycle in Wiltshire, a hot air balloon ride over Salisbury will keep you entertained both in the skies and once back down on the ground.directionsSalisbury Racecourse launch site:- The Racecourse The Race Plain Netherhampton Salisbury SP2 8PN Take Blandford road from Salisbury (A354).
