Okehampton
Virgin balloon rides from Okehampton launch from right on the edge of the world-famous moorland of Dartmoor. In the very heart of Devon, it is an ancient rugged landscape of valleys, rivers and mighty granite tors. On a clear day you could enjoy views as far as Yes Tor and even High Willhays, the highest point on Dartmoor and the highest in the UK south of the Brecon Beacons.
See if you can spot the semi-wild Dartmoor ponies as they roam across the moorland.
Finch Foundry is an historic, water-powered forge and just 10 minutes from Okehampton centre. The last working forge of its kind in England, it is well worth a visit before or after your balloon flight.
Exeter
Founded by the Romans almost 2,000 years ago, Exeter is recognised as one of England’s oldest cities. As you float over the city, you’ll take in beautiful sites from a high, such as the River Exe, rolling countryside and wonderful architecture this charming city has to offer.
Surrounded by both Dartmoor and Exmoor, the city is the perfect central-point from which to fly in any direction, take in the breathtaking local scenery and tranquillity, and later return to a vibrant, exciting hub.
Tiverton
Launching from the oldest rugby club in Devon, a hot air balloon ride over Tiverton provides a fabulous way to see this beautiful area from a completely new perspective from anything up to 5,000 feet.
Once airborne, look out from your balloon basket and see if you can spot Cranmore Castle, an Iron Age hill fort standing atop Exeter Hill above the town. Above the banks of the River Exe on a cliffside also stands Tiverton Castle, now remains of a former castle comprising ruined perimeter walls, towers and buildings from various periods.
Looking north you could see Exmoor National Park whilst to the south can be found Dartmoor National Park and Exmouth.
