He purchased a hot air balloon called ‘Pigbucket’ (becoming known locally as ‘Piglet’ as a result!) and was taught to fly by Oliver Holmes, the late owner of world famous British teddy bear manufacturer Merrythought Ltd.
After gaining his licence, Graham diversified from farming into promotional balloon flying, which saw him fly in places such as Egypt, Dubai, Jordan, USA and Venezuela. Many of these balloons were special shapes such as the Cadbury’s Cream Egg, Sonic the Hedgehog, Virgin Jumbo, Choc Dips, Robinson’s Orange Barley Water Bottle and Old Parr whisky to name but a few.
He even met his wife whilst flying the Banks’s Beer Mug at The Dangerous Sports Club in Oxfordshire.
Outside hot air ballooning, he has many hobbies including skiing, vintage tractors and building his Westfield Sports Car – an project that is currently entering its 12th year.
Graham has flown thousands of passengers during his career and now operates hot air balloon rides over the spectacular sights of Staffordshire, the Derbyshire Dales and The Peak District. Join Graham on a hot air balloon ride from Bakewell or Tissington in the East Midlands and Uttoxeter or Stafford in the West Midlands.
