About

One of our back-up launch sites, your flight may be moved here on the day.

Carnfield Hall is a beautiful 16th century country house situated in the former-coal mining town, Alfreton. Located in the north of Derbyshire, Alfreton provides the ideal location to explore both the Peak District and the Derbyshire Dales from the unique vantage point of a hot air balloon. Surrounded by 60 acres of historic parkland and ancient wooldland, Carnfield Hall provides a relaxing beginning to your magical balloon ride, being described as a ‘haven of tranquility to this day’.

With the wind as your only guide you may experience the sensational beauty of the River Derwent flowing through the Peak District. There, it will be hard to miss the Heights of Abraham sitting on the steep slopes of Masson Hill, offering a cable car system. The stunning views of the surrounding peak district are quite something from a cable car but floating open air in a hot air balloon, the sights are truly unforgettable. If you’re lucky, the wind will guide you past Matlock Bath, a popular tourist spot known for its warm springs and beautiful scenery reminiscent of Switzerland.

Below the basket, you may spot Carsington Water, taking its source from the River Derwent, it is currently England’s ninth largest reservoir holding 35,412 megalitres! Many activities centre around the reservoir so you may catch people fly fishing, bird watching, sailing, canoeing and windsurfing along the currents.

Whether you see it or smell it first, you’re likely to float over the Thorntons chocolate factory, here your nostrils will be treated to the sweet chocolaty aroma emanating from the factory and surrounding the air around the balloon.
