Rutland Water is the UK’s man-made lake and one of the largest in all of Europe, similar in size to Windermere.

A spectacular spot to start your Leicestershire hot air balloon ride, a flight from Rutland Water is an experience you will never forget.

Go up, up and away from the edge of this beautiful reservoir, surrounded by glorious natural habitats stretching out for miles in every direction.

The wind blowing north would take you across the water and miles of unspoilt countryside, dotted here and there with pretty villages such as Upper Hambleton.

With stunning vistas as far as the horizon, keep an eye out for landmarks such as Oakham Castle and Barnsdale Wood

To the south lies more open countryside as you float towards the town of Corby. See if you can spot the the 140-year-old Welland Viaduct – the longest brick-built viaduct in the UK.

Directions

Turn off from the A1 by Stamford on the A606 towards Rutland Water, Oakham, and Melton. After about 3 miles, turn left towards Rutland Water South Shore, Edith Weston, and Normanton.

In Edith Weston at the T-junction, turn right towards Manton and the Sailing Club. Pass the Sailing Club and the Golf Club and opposite the turning to Lyndon, turn right over the cattle grid and down a single track road.

TURN RIGHT through the gate opposite the bungalow where it is sign posted Lakeland Estates Lyndon Top, these gates are locked at times.

This is our launch site where the pilot and crew will meet you. If you are on site before the balloon crew, please drive in and park on the field if possible.

Please note there are no toilet facilities on site.
